Cedar Fair, the owner of Carowinds and Schlitterbahn amusement parks, has merged with Six Flags Entertainment. The new company will be based in Charlotte.
The combined organization will operate under the Six Flags banner with the “FUN” ticker symbol. Season pass holders will receive expanded park access, and the combined loyalty program will be enhanced with additional perks.
The new Six Flags will have an enterprise value of $8 billion based on the debt and equity values of the existing companies. Its portfolio will span 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resort properties across 17 states in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Carowinds, a roughly 400-acre park straddling the North Carolina-South Carolina state line, is among the biggest tourist attractions in the Charlotte region with an estimated 2 million visitors per year. It includes Carolina Harbor Waterpark.
